10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not exciting for a lot of us. But it is important. As the winter near an end and we start looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something inside of us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up throughout the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of your home?
The exterior of your home could probably use a little refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the appearance of your home in Carrollton, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot of money over the years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the best time of year to clean out your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a huge mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not cleaned.
Plus, bugs and animals are looking for places to build homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, rust stains and restoring them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows won’t cause you too much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows are tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring job, and it will require a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem strange because you’ll still be driving on it, but, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washing service will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use in the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it in the winter since you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in rough condition the first time you walk onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you need to consider a more serious option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are typical roof issues in Carrollton. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your home, it is a great time to pressure clean your roof as well, but you’ll need to use a different process than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you notice streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your roof.
The best course of action for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and let it sit. This will kill any organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Tidy up the Front
The front of your home is likely what most people passing by see, so make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will even encourage you to spend a lot more time outside.
You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and think about painting it for a really bright look! Clean forgotten areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You’ll probably be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent chance to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor chores.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment must all have an assigned place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your home much more during the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and bushes can make a big impact on the overall look of your home.
Get rid of weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.
Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
You could probably finish all of these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Carrollton Pressure Washing provides professional residential exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
